USGA Grant
LINK ASSOCIATES RECEIVES A GRANT
FROM THE USGA
The United States Golf Association (USGA)
has approved up to a $2,000 matching grant to Link
Associates to support the organization’s golf program for
adults with disabilities.
The Leisure Times Golf program has been
teaching golf skills for over 11 years at Link Associates as
part of the extensive Leisure Services Program. Leisure
Services provides opportunities to individuals with
disabilities for the development of an independent and
healthy lifestyle through leisure and recreation. This past
year, 485 children and adults with disabilities participated
in sports and fitness, social, cultural, and leisure
education activities. The golf program is an opportunity
for adults who have a mental disability to experience the
game of golf, receive instruction and for those who are
interested – to participate in Special Olympics Golf
competitions. The program was held this summer at Willow
Creek Golf Course.
Mandi Parker, Leisure Services Manager,
said “The USGA has made it possible to bring the Leisure
Services Golf Program to a whole new level. With their
contributions, we have added professional instruction,
course access and purchased equipment. These things were
previously impossible for Link Associates to offer as a
non-profit organization.” Please contact Mandi Parker at
515-262-8888 to learn more about Link Associates and Leisure
Services programming.
The USGA works to make the game of golf
affordable and accessible. Since 1997, it has awarded more
than $57 million as part of its ongoing $5-million annual
grants initiative to provide financial support and
assistance to deserving golf programs. The USGA Executive
Committee has extended its grants initiative to the end of
the decade, bringing total anticipated USGA support to $65
million. The grants initiative traditionally focuses on
programming for economically disadvantaged youth and
individuals with disabilities. Beyond its Grants
Initiative, the USGA partners with national organizations to
promote affordable and accessible facility development,
course access, girls’ golf, and initiatives for individuals
with disabilities.
